All dog owners
should take out some time, that is twice in a month to clean their dog's ears.
As you know, dogs have very long ear canals, usually from 5-10cm in length. The
ear also has a right-angled bend, where the once the foreign material gets in
but it get difficult to get out. If you don't want your furry pal to go through
this issue, you can follow this simple process of cleaning your dog's ears.
·
Before starting the ear
cleaning, see that your dog is cool and calm
· Ear cleaning can be little
messy, so select a place in the house or yard, where it is easy to clean the
place.
·
Give your pet a treat for
sitting and show him the ear cleaner.
·
Wear gloves in your hand
·
Gently hold the flap of the ear
upright and fill the ear canal with ear cleaner
·
Direct the tube vertically
downwards
·
Hold the ear and and gently
massage the base of the area, where it meets the head.
·
This will help ear cleaner
solution to get mixed around within the ear canal.
·
You will hear squelchy noise,
if your doing it right.
·
After you have massaged the ear
for 20 seconds, stand back and let go of the ear
·
Your dog should now vigorously
shake his head
·
Grab some cotton wool and use
it to wipe out the folds at the opening of the ear canal until it looks pretty
clean
·
Give your dog a treat and
repeat with the other ear
Dogs that have
skin allergies and are prone to frequent ear infections will also benefit from
regular ear cleaning. It is important that you carefully notice your dog's
ears. If you find any kind of very red, itchy inflamed and painful ears, then
take your furry pal to the vet. Cleaning of ear, at this stage of infection at
home will not help and it may cause damage to the ear further.
Cleaner To Be
Used:
There are lots
of ear cleaning products on the market for dogs, but the most important thing
is that you should use a good quality dog ear cleaner such as Kleo Ear Cleaner,
Paw Gentle Ear Cleaner, Troy Alpha Ear Cleaner, Epi-Otic Ear and Skin Cleanser for Dogs etc. Make sure, not to
put any other substances like olive oil, vinegar in a dog's ear. Don't poke
around with cotton buds in the ear, you will tend to push the wax and debris
further in and potentially damage the ear drum.
