Peak Tick Season – Steps to Follow to Prevent Tick-Borne Diseases

Pet parents think that pests only irritate their pets during warmer months especially during summertime only. Looking on the clearer side, the threat of parasites and specially fleas and ticks is not constrained to hot months only. Tick bites and diseases passed through the transfer of infectious organisms as tick bites taking in blood from pets is a greater danger highest during summer while still chances lay for colder months also.

With total awareness about life-threatening bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases spread by ticks, you should take logical steps for environmental control and seek advice from veterinarians for the best flea and tick preventive treatments most appropriate for your furry pal.

Follow these steps to keep your furry pal free from ticks:

ü  Keeping your pooch away from ticks require a strategic planning involving an environmental control and prevention.

ü  Do not allow your doggy to roam freely in the yard or go off lead during walks or hiking or a day out in wooded areas. Avoiding your dog or cat from entering tick-prone zones, will immensely reduce exposure to ticks and lowers the chances of tick diseases.

ü  For pets that are easily targeted by ticks (or fleas), veterinary surgeons recommend tick topical or oral medications or preventives that are highly effective.

ü  Tick collars are also useful when pets are quite fussy about spot-on or oral treatments. These tick collars repel or kill ectoparasites.

ü  Pet owners need to pick the right product based on the size, age, breed, any health condition, because what seems appropriate to one dog/cat may not perfectly works for the other animal. For example, dog product should not be used on cat or a topical treatment should never be (even by mistake) ingested.

ü  Pet owner should strictly follow the manufacturer’s guidelines in conjunction with a veterinarian’s advice.

As its prime summer time, use all the measures to keep your pet free from ticks and other pesky parasites like fleas.
